Statement of the High Representative and Vice-president Federica Mogherini attending the Summit of the Americas, Panama

The High Representative and Vice-president Federica Mogherini is in Panama since yesterday for the seventh Summit of the Americas; it is the first time the European Union is invited to the meeting.
Mogherini had the chance of exchanging views in the margins of the Summit with the President of the United States, Barack Obama, the President of Cuba, Raul Castro, United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Mauro Luiz Vieira, among others.
The High Representative has bilateral meetings planned with the President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, the President of Peru, Ollanta Humala, the ministers of Foreign Affairs of Panama, Isabel Saint Malo, of Guyana, Carolyn Rodrigues, of Paraguay, Eladio Loizaga Caballero, of Urugay, Rodolfo Nin Novoa, and of Ecuador, Ricardo Patiño Aroca.
"In this historical moment for the Americas, while the United States and Cuba are opening a new chapter of their relations, it is crucial to reaffirm and strengthen the friendship between the European Union and all the countries of the Region to accompany this time of change", said Federica Mogherini.
