One of the most important and accessible methods for improving understanding and fostering relationships is through the exchange of culture. Europe has a very rich and diverse culture to draw from and the EU Delegation in Thailand regularly organises various events to reach out to the people of Thailand.
Many of our member states also run cultural centres and institutes with varied programmes. These include the Alliance française, British Council, Ufficio Culturale of the Italian Embassy and Goethe Institut.
Some of the more prominent events include:
European Union Film Festival
Every year, the EU Delegation hosts the European Union Film Festival in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. In 2011 we celebrated its 20th anniversary. The Festival allows visitors to experience some of Europe's finest cinematic productions. There are no other events in Thailand where visitors can watch both internationally acclaimed movies as well as films that would otherwise hardly ever be seen on the big screen in Southeast Asia. Admission to all screenings at the Festival is free of charge.
For more information, visit the EU Delegation's Film Festival Facebook page.
In September 2012 a common framework for the promotion of European culture and European-Thai cultural dialogue and exchange was established. EUNIC Thailand (European Union National Institutes of Culture Thailand) unites the Alliance française, the British Council, the French Embassy, the Goethe Institut of Germany, the Instituto Camões of Portugal, the Italian Embassy and the Spanish Embassy as its members, with the support of the Delegation of the European Union to Thailand. As part of 70 EUNIC clusters worldwide, the members of EUNIC Thailand will share resources on a project-to-project basis to promote the diversity of European culture, and to stimulate intercultural dialogue and cooperation between Europe and Thailand.
